Rest, Hallelujah

The Civil Wars – Same Old Same Old

It was raining when I drove home today, the sort of drive with minimum radio volume and only the headrest to keep me upright. I’d been looking forward to home since I hit a wall this afternoon, passing the hours mechanically before reaching the car toward home. The house is all mine this week. There is a fireplace, the remains of avocado with tomato on toast, laundry and a phone call with my brother. Friends tells jokes in the background all the while, and still makes me giggle.

Rest is an act and an outcome I’ve learned to take notice of, put on and settle into. Here’s to a Monday night of quiet – hallelujah.
