Brené Brown, a researcher on shame, said that courage is to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart. She found that “whole-hearted people” had the courage to be imperfect and the compassion to be kind first to themselves in order to be kind to others. They had managed to let go of the image of who they should be to be who they really were. And, lastly, they believed that what made them vulnerable also made them beautiful.
People who have a strong sense of love and belonging believe that they are actually worthy of love and belonging. Humanity is wired for connection, it gives meaning and purpose to our lives. And we are kept out of connection when we believe we are not worth it.
